Isabel De Clare became heiress to her father’s lands after the untimely death of her brother. She was to inherit the lands in Wales as well as her father’s lands in Leinster. As with most Medieval marriages it was an arranged match but their story was to be a happy one, despite their age difference.

The Chronica de Fundatoribus et Fundatione of Tewkesbury Abbey records the births of “duas filias, Agnetam et Isabellam” to “Gilberto…Gloucestriæ et Hertfordiæ comes” and his wife “domina Isabella filia Willielmi Marescalli senioris, comitis de Pembroke”, after the birth of their older brothers[2001].
In the late twelfth-century Anglo-Norman marriage market, the teenage Isabel de Clare was a very desirable prize. Under Anglo-Norman feudal law, the marriage of her parents, Strongbow and Aoife, and the related succession agreement between Strongbow and Isabel’s maternal grandfather, Diarmait Mac Murchada, united the holdings of the two families.
19 de sept. de 2023 · About Isabel de Clare. Probably-posthumous daughter of Sir William de Clare; poorly attested (Burke's Peerage is not infallible). Identity of her mother is not certain; Margery de Burgh was married to Theobald le Boteler c. 1240-1248, and she did pay a fine to remarry in 1250, but there is no record of whom, or if, she took for a second husband.
Isabella de Clare (2 November 1226-10 July 1264) was the daughter of Gilbert de Clare, 4th Earl of Hertford and 5th Earl of Gloucester and Isabel Marshal. Isabel died in October 1239, and her grandson Gilbert "The Red" inherited her lands as well as the de Clare lands on the death of his father, Richard, in 1262. S ibilla (d ante 1238) married, before 1219, William de Ferrers, earl of Derby, and they had seven daughters.
