TRISTAN UND ISOLDE ACTE III. Synopsis : Tristan est allongé sur un lit de repos sous un grand tilleul. Le blessé mortel a été emmené par Kurwenal au vieux château de Tristan en Bretagne, où Tristan a grandi. Kurwenal sait que seules les capacités de guérison d’Isolde peuvent le sauver et l’a fait venir.

Kurwenal drijft de spot met Brangäne en zingt “Herr Morold zog zu Meere her,” een lied dat de miserabele dood van Morold bespot.

Er transzendierte ihre Liebe durch die Todessehnsucht und stand vor der Aufgabe, dieses metaphysische Gefühl zufriedenstellend in Worte zu fassen, wobei er instinktiv die Unmöglichkeit eines solchen Unterfangens spürte.
Isolde är frustrerad. Synopsis: Brangäne förmedlar Isoldes önskan att få träffa honom till Tristan. Men Tristan hävdar, trots det lugna havet, att han är oumbärlig vid skeppets rodret. Kurwenal hånar Brangäne och sjunger “Herr Morold zog zu Meere her”, en sång som hånar Morolds eländiga död.
