Ivan Platonovich Kalyayev (Russian: Ива́н Плато́нович Каля́ев; 6 July 1877 – 23 May 1905) was a Russian poet, a member of the Socialist-Revolutionary Party. He is best known for his role in the assassination of Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich, which was an operation of the SR Combat Organization.

Ivan Kalyayev and Egor Sazonov were chosen to carry out the killing. However, it was the bomb thrown by Egor Sazonov on 28th July, 1904, that killed Plehve. Emile J. Dillon , who was working for the Daily Telegraph , witnessed the assassination: "Two men on bicycles glided past, followed by a closed carriage, which I recognized as that of the all-powerful minister (Vyacheslav Plehve).

After her husband’s death, Elizabeth became a vegetarian, sold off her jewellery and turned to religious life. She opened the Convent of Saints Martha and Mary and became its abbess. She did a lot of work to help the poor and sick of Moscow.
