Joseph Russel Robinson (July 8, 1892 – September 30, 1963) was an American ragtime, dixieland, and blues pianist and composer. He was a member of the Original Dixieland Jass Band.

In 1963 J. Russel Robinson died at age 71 after a brief bout with complications from lung cancer, the result of a life-long smoking habit. In his obituary, it was Gertrude who was referenced as his widow, along with their married daughter, now Theresa Duffie. It is unclear if they had got back together at some point.
J. Russel Robinson was born on 8 July 1892 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. He was an actor, known for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Tolkien (2019) and Bullets Over Broadway (1994). He died on 30 September 1963 in Palmdale, California, USA.

"Portrait of Jennie," the title song written by J. Russel Robinson, subsequently became a hit for Nat King Cole. An EmArcy Records (MG-36005) recording, Clifford Brown with Strings (recorded January 18, 19, 20, 1955) features jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown performing "Portrait of Jenny" [sic].
