Agnes Keith, Countess of Moray (c. 1540 – 16 July 1588) was a Scottish noblewoman. She was the wife of James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray, regent of Scotland and the illegitimate half-brother of Mary, Queen of Scots, making her a sister-in-law of the Scottish queen.

The earldom eventually descended to Elizabeth Stewart, 7th Countess of Moray, whose husband was also recognised as earl. However, when her husband, James, was killed in battle against the Sovereign in 1455, his title was attainted . The next grant was made to James Stewart, the son of King James IV.

Lady Agnes Keith was born at Dunnottar Castle, the daughter of William Keith, 4th Earl Marischal and Margaret Keith of Inverugie. Agnes was well educated, and on 8 February 1562 she married James Stewart, 1st Earl of Moray, half brother of, and close adviser to, Mary, Queen of Scots.

13 de abr. de 2022 · Lady Agnes became known as the Countess of Moray. When in 1567, just 15 months after the birth of Mary's only son, the future King James, the queen was forced to abdicate, she was able to recommend James, Earl of Moray, as Regent for the baby king.
