James VI and I (James Charles Stuart; 19 June 1566 – 27 March 1625) was King of Scotland as James VI from 24 July 1567 and King of England and Ireland as James I from the union of the Scottish and English crowns on 24 March 1603 until his death in 1625.

Hace 1 día · Born in Edinburgh Castle on 19 June 1566, James was the only son of Mary, Queen of Scots and her second husband, Lord Darnley. He was less than a year old when he saw his mother for the last time, and thirteen months old when he was crowned King of Scots in Stirling after her forced abdication.
James VI (1567–1625) James lived through the usual disrupted minority to become one of Scotland’s most successful kings. In a civil war between his own and his mother’s followers, laird (landed proprietor) and merchant support for James may have been decisive in his eventual victory.
