Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes ( ARA; French: [ovɛʁɲ ʁon alp] ⓘ) [4] is a region in southeast-central France created by the 2014 territorial reform of French regions; it resulted from the merger of Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes. The new region came into effect on 1 January 2016, after the regional elections in December 2015. [5]
Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, region of east-central France created in 2016 by the union of Auvergne and Rhone-Alpes. It is bounded by the regions of Centre, Bourgogne-Franche-Comte, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, and Provence–Alpes–Cote d’Azur and by Italy and Switzerland. The capital is Lyon.
