James Abbott McNeill Whistler (1834 - 1903) Bien que de nationalité américaine, Whistler partage sa carrière entre Londres et Paris. Il s'inscrit à l'atelier de Charles Gleyre à l'Ecole des beaux-arts en 1856 et, pour assurer une meilleure diffusion de ses oeuvres, il s'associe deux ans plus tard avec Alphonse Legros et Fantin-Latour.
James Abbott McNeill Whistler (Lowell, Massachusetts, 10 de julho de 1834 — Londres, 17 de julho de 1903) foi um pintor norte-americano estabelecido na Inglaterra e na França. Seus pais eram o engenheiro civil George Washington Whistler e sua segunda esposa, Anna Matilda McNeill.
詹姆斯·阿博特·麦克尼尔·惠斯勒（James Abbott McNeill Whistler，1834.07.11—1903.07.17）美国画家、蚀刻家，父亲是美国工程师，全家曾经住过圣彼得堡。惠斯勒曾于西点军校肄业，之后选择做画家。深受日本绘画影响。代表作有：灰与黑的协奏曲、画家母亲肖像、白衣少女（系列）、瓷器公主。
