James Roosevelt II was an American businessman, Marine, activist, and Democratic Party politician. The eldest son of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt, he served as an official Secretary to the President for his father and was later elected to the United States House of Representatives representing California, serving 5 terms from 1955 to 1965.
In 1954, Roosevelt won the first of six congressional elections in which he supported liberal Democratic politics. After losing the mayoral contest in Los Angeles, Roosevelt left Congress in 1965 to accept an appointment to the United Nations Economic and Social Council only to resign a year later to become president of the International Overseas Services Management Company.
