Jay Sebring was born Thomas John Kummer on October 10, 1933 in Alabama. His father was accountant Bernerd Kummer and mother’s name was Margarette. Jay grew up with four siblings in a middle-class family outside of Detroit, Michigan. Early life. After high school Jay joined the Navy and went off to serve in the Korean War.
