Their success was based greatly upon the strong vocals Jay sang so seemingly effortlessly. Favoring the music of his personal idols , such as Roy Orbison, Elvis, Gary Puckett, Gene Pitney, Johnny Maestro and of course his very favorite, Jay and the Americans. His band successfully played the Chicago scene for thiry years.
