  2. 28 de mar. de 2024 · Norman Granz was Oscar Peterson’s manager until 1988. He became a close friend. Peterson toured with Jazz at the Philharmonic from 1950 to 1952. His performances, both in concert and on record, were hits. Peterson placed first in the piano category of DownBeat magazine’s readers’ poll 15 times in 23 years.

In 1949 Peterson went to the United States, where he appeared in one of jazz promoter Norman Granz’s concerts at Carnegie Hall, New York City.

Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald were part of this historic show, and the next day they met at the studio to record the first of their three studio albums together.

The song rings with overtones of the African-American church, sounding at once sacred and soulful as it transitions from its psalm-like beginning into its gently swinging conclusion. Peterson died in 2007 and was buried near his home in Mississauga, Ontario.
