Jean-Baptiste Isabey, qui deviendra le célèbre peintre, miniaturiste, dessinateur et aquarelliste, est né à Nancy, le 11 avril 1767 (1). Il était le deuxième fils de Jacques Isabey, épicier et de Marie-Françoise Morel, son épouse. À Nancy, il étudie la peinture avec deux artistes lorrains : Girardet (architecture et décoration) et Claudot (art du paysage).
