Jesse Root Grant (January 23, 1794 – June 29, 1873) was an American farmer, tanner and successful leather merchant who owned tanneries and leather goods shops in several different states throughout his adult life. He is best known as the father of Ulysses S. Grant and the one who introduced Ulysses to military life at West Point.

Jesse Root Grant II (February 6, 1858 – June 8, 1934) was an American politician. He was the youngest son of President Ulysses S. Grant and First Lady Julia Grant . He joined the Democratic Party and sought the party nomination for President , running against William Jennings Bryan in 1908.

Jesse Root Grant II was the fourth and youngest child of Ulysses and Julia Grant. He was an accomplished mining engineer and lawyer who lived much of his adult life in California. He also attempted to run for President of the United States in 1908.
