James Elisha 'Jim' Folsom Jr. (born May 14, 1949) is an American politician who was the 50th governor of Alabama from April 22, 1993, to January 16, 1995. He has also served as the lieutenant governor of Alabama on two occasions. He is a member of the Democratic Party .

James E. Folsom Jr. (1949- ) became governor of Alabama in 1993 after Gov. Guy Hunt was convicted on a felony ethics charge. He was elected to three terms as lieutenant governor, in 1987, 1990, and 2007. Folsom is known for bringing a Mercedes-Benz plant to Alabama and for removing the Confederate flag from the state capital building.

He is also one of two sets of fathers and sons who served as governors of Alabama, the other being Edward and Emmet O’Neal.
In 1978 Jim Folsom, Jr., was elected a member of the Alabama Public Service Commission. During his first term in this position he was honored with the Outstanding Award in the Field of Utilities Legislation and also the Outstanding Communication Award of the Year.
