Michael James Kale (born August 11, 1943) is a retired Canadian musician, best known as the original bassist for the rock band The Guess Who. He was also a member of the band Scrubbaloe Caine . In 1987, he was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as a member of The Guess Who.

Inicios
Los orígenes de The Guess Who? se remontan a 1958, cuando el cantante y guitarrista de Winnipeg, Canadá, Chad Allan formó una banda de rock local llamada Allan and The Silvertones. Como The Guess Who?

Cambios constantes y separación
A mediados de 1972, Jim Kale se aleja de la banda y comienza una serie de cambios constantes en el seno de la agrupación, siendo Burton Cummings y Garry Peterson los únicos miembros estables durante esta etapa. The Guess Who regresó al Top 10 por última vez en 1974 con la canción "Clap for the Wolfman" del álbum Road Food. Starting in the late 1970s, original bassist Jim Kale organized a band under the name of The Guess Who for nostalgia tours with a frequently changing cast of musicians. Kale departed temporarily on some occasions and the surviving band often performed with no original members.

In 1977, former bassist Jim Kale, who was fired from the band in 1972, asked Burton Cummings for permission to use the Guess Who name for a single reunion concert, but Kale went beyond the scope of Cummings’ initial permission and hired other musicians to perform as the new The Guess Who.
