The Hohenstaufen (or the Staufer (s)) were a dynasty of Kings of Germany, many of whom were also crowned Holy Roman Emperor and Duke of Swabia. The dynasty can be dated from 1138 until 1266. In 1194, the Hohenstaufen also became Kings of Sicily. The proper name, taken from their castle in Swabia, is Staufen.
