Biografía. Los hermanos John y Charles Allen nacieron en Gales de un oficial naval, Thomas Hay Allen ( 1773-14 de febrero de 1852), y su esposa, Katherine, hija del clérigo y anticuario Owen Manning, quien se desempeñó como vicario de Godalming en el condado de Surrey, Inglaterra durante varios años.
It is claimed (and dates would appear to support the theory) that all his children were born out of wedlock but he eventually married their mother in 1780. His grandchildren by Thomas were John Carter Allen (1795–1872) and Charles Manning Allen (1802–1880) who infamously changed their identity and claimed to be the Sobieski Stuarts.

Actually, John Sobieski Stuart and his brother Charles Edward Stuart, collectively later known as "the Sobieskis" were born as John Carter Allen and Charles Manning Allen in Wales. They were the sons of a Royal Naval Officer, Thomas Hay Allen, and his wife Catherine.
