24 de abr. de 2024 · Coltrane had met Alice, a pianist, in 1960, and they had been friends since then. A son, John Coltrane Jr., was born to Coltrane and Alice on August 8, 1964; this was followed on August 6, 1965 by a second son, Ravi. A year later Coltrane divorced Naima and married Alice. A final son, Oran, was born to Coltrane and Alice on March 19, 1967.
29 de abr. de 2024 · Miles Davis debuted his first “classic” quintet of John Coltrane/ts, Red Garland/p, Paul Chambers/b and Philly Joe Jones/dr on this 1956 release. The famed marathon recording session of this quintet was part of Davis desire to fulfill his Prestige contract so he could move on to the more commercially viable Columbia, little knowing that these songs would last for the ages.

Altogether, Garland led 19 recording sessions while at Prestige Records and 25 sessions for Fantasy Records. He stopped playing professionally for a number of years in the 1960s when the popularity of rock music coincided with a substantial drop in the popularity of jazz.
