  5. 26 de feb. de 2024 · John Dudley was born in 1504 to Edmund Dudley, a prominent administrator in Henry VII’s court and his wife, noblewoman Elizabeth Grey (daughter of Edward Grey, 1st Viscount Lisle). When John was just a boy, his father was imprisoned in the Tower of London, charged with treason and was subsequently executed on 17th August 1510.

  6. John Dudley began as a soldier, made a reputation for jousting, was knighted in 1523, helped to put down the Pilgrimage of Grace, and became deputy governor of Calais in 1538. In 1542 he was made warden of the Scottish marches, served as lord admiral, was created Viscount Lisle in turn, and in 1544 captured Boulogne from the French.
