30 de abr. de 2024 · John Hope, our ‘hero’ memorialised by the Hopetoun Monument, was born in 1765 and was part of the aristocratic Hopetoun family. He took the title of the Earl of Hopetoun when his half-brother died in 1816. John joined the army at a young age and quickly rose to the rank of Brigadier-General.
