John Redmond. John Edward Redmond (1 September 1856 – 6 March 1918) was an Irish nationalist politician, barrister, and MP in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. He was best known as leader of the moderate Irish Parliamentary Party (IPP) from 1900 until his death in 1918.

John Redmond’s choices have to be seen in that context. It is fair to say that the war came at the worst possible time for him, just a week after the breakdown of the Buckingham Palace talks in which he, John Dillon, Edward Carson and James Craig tried to find a compromise solution to the problems of Ulster and Home Rule.
