John Singer Sargent was influenced by many styles and masters, drawing inspiration in particular from Velasquez and Hal. His classically-inspired training at the Ecole des Beaux Arts also left its mark on his masterpieces. Diego Velasquez, the great Spanish master of the 17th century, influenced many Realist artists.
