Lady Cynthia Hamilton. Edward John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, LVO (24 January 1924 – 29 March 1992), styled Viscount Althorp until June 1975, was a British nobleman, military officer, and courtier. He was the father of Diana, Princess of Wales, and the maternal grandfather of William, Prince of Wales, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex .

He was Chancellor of the Exchequer under Lord Grey and Lord Melbourne from 1830 to 1834. Due to his reputation for integrity, he was nicknamed "Honest Jack".

Am 3. April 1761 wurde er von König Georg III. als Viscount Spencer und Baron Spencer of Althorp in den erblichen britischen Adelsstand erhoben. [1] .
