John Spencer, 1st Earl Spencer was the son of The Hon. John Spencer, of Althorp and Lady Georgiana Carolina Carteret, daughter of John Carteret, Earl Granville, 2nd Lord Carteret and Frances Worsley. 1st Earl Spencer Married 20 December 1755 at Althorp, the Spencer family country estate to Georgiana Poyntz, daughter of The Rt. Hon. Stephen Poyntz and Anna Maria Mordaunt.
Charles Robert Spencer, 6th Earl Spencer (1857–1922), who married the Hon. Margaret Baring, daughter of Edward Baring, 1st Baron Revelstoke. Lord Spencer died at the family seat at Althorp , Brington , Northamptonshire , in December 1857, aged 59, and was succeeded in the earldom by his only son from his first marriage, John, who became a Liberal politician.
