John Spencer, 1st Earl Spencer was the son of The Hon. John Spencer, of Althorp and Lady Georgiana Carolina Carteret, daughter of John Carteret, Earl Granville, 2nd Lord Carteret and Frances Worsley. 1st Earl Spencer Married 20 December 1755 at Althorp, the Spencer family country estate to Georgiana Poyntz, daughter of The Rt. Hon. Stephen Poyntz and Anna Maria Mordaunt.
George John Spencer, 2nd Earl Spencer (1758–1834), married Lady Lavinia Bingham, daughter of Charles Bingham, 1st Earl of Lucan, and had issue. John Poyntz Spencer, 5th Earl Spencer (1835–1910). Lady Sarah Isabella Spencer (1838–1919), died unmarried. After Georgiana's death in 1851 he married secondly, Adelaide Horatia Seymour (1825–1877), daughter of Sir Horace Seymour and a great-granddaughter of Francis Seymour-Conway, 1st Marquess of Hertford, on 9 August 1854.
