Born in Scotland, Franchitti attracted attention in 1992 when he was named McLaren/Autosport Young Driver of the Year. He came to the U.S. in 1997 for Hogan Racing. The following year he won three races and a season-best five poles for what is now Andretti Autosport. In 1999, Franchitti lost the title to Juan Pablo Montoya based on a tiebreaker.
Dario Franchitti (born 19 May 1973) is a Scottish racing driver. He is best known for winning the IndyCar Series championship four times (in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011). He won the Indianapolis 500 three times. He most recently drove for Chip Ganassi Racing.
