The House of York was a cadet branch of the English royal House of Plantagenet. Three of its members became kings of England in the late 15th century. The House of York descended in the male line from Edmund of Langley, 1st Duke of York , the fourth surviving son of Edward III .

Wars of the Roses (1455–85), in English history, the series of civil wars that preceded the rise of the Tudors. Fought between the houses of Lancaster and York for the English throne, the wars were named years afterward from the supposed badges of the contenders: the white rose of York and the red rose of Lancaster.
Elizabeth of York (11 February 1466 – 11 February 1503) was Queen of England from her marriage to King Henry VII on 18 January 1486 until her death in 1503. She was the daughter of King Edward IV and his wife, Elizabeth Woodville , and her marriage to Henry VII followed his victory at the Battle of Bosworth Field , which marked the end of the Wars of the Roses .
