At the age of 15 Josefina became engaged to the Swedish crown prince Oscar (I) after having met him briefly in the summer of 1822.

Queen Josefina. Joséphine of Leuchtenberg was born in Milan in March 1807, and was the daughter of Napoleon's stepson Eugène de Beauharnais and Princess Augusta Amalia of Bavaria. In 1822, Crown Prince Oscar visited Eichstätt in Bavaria where he met Joséphine. The Crown Prince fell in love with her and asked for her hand in marriage.

Aderezo de zafiros Leuchtenberg. La reina Josefina de Suecia heredó las joyas de su madre Augusta Amalia, duquesa de Leuchtenberg. El aderezo de zafiros fue probablemente creado por Marie-Etienne Nitot en París. Después las joyas fueron entregadas a la reina Sofía, pero no está documentado que ella usara este aderezo.
