    Construction of Huis ten Bosch Palace started in 1645. Its initial functionwas as a summer residence for stadholder Prince Frederik Hendrik and his wife,Princess Amalia.

    During this period the palace had four different owners. The last of these,Prince William IV, had the palace thoroughly restored.

    Under French rule, the palace became state property. King Louis Bonapartealso altered the interior of the palace, thereby bringing the Empire style tothe Netherlands.
