Der Landkreis Schmalkalden-Meiningen ist ein Landkreis im fränkisch geprägten Südwesten Thüringens, Kreisstadt und gleichzeitig größte Stadt ist Meiningen. Raumordnerisch gehört der Kreis zur Planungsregion Südwestthüringen und ist Mitglied der Planungsgemeinschaft Südwestthüringen.
