Born Juliette Canova to Joseph Francis, a cottonbroker, and Henrietta Perry Canova in Starke, Florida (near Jacksonville), her singing mother encouraged all her children to perform. Judy, the youngest of the Canova brood, eventually joined older siblings Anne and Zeke in a singing vaudeville and radio act.
