In a New York City church overflowing with red and white poinsettias, David Eisenhower, the grandson of former President Dwight Eisenhower, and Julie Nixon, the daughter of the newly elected president, Richard Nixon, were married 42 years ago today, uniting two of the country's most powerful political families.
On December 22, 1968, Eisenhower married Julie Nixon, a daughter of then President-elect Nixon, who had served as Dwight Eisenhower's vice president. The couple had known each other since meeting at the 1956 Republican National Convention and David Eisenhower had escorted Julie Nixon as her civilian escort at the International Debutante Ball at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
