One of the earliest known methods of scheduling work was invented in Poland by an engineer named Karol Adamiecki (1866-1933). His invention — the harmonogram — led to increases in output between 100% and 400% in metal rolling mills, in machine shops, in chemical plants, in agriculture, and in mining.
In rolling mills and mechanical engineering factories, in the chemical industry, agriculture, and mining, within Poland and abroad, the introduction of harmonograms led to increases in output between 100 and 400% (5, p. 108). It is significant that Adamiecki's early innovations were contemporary.
