Karoline von Günderrode (1780-1806) nació en Karlsruhe en el seno de una talentosa familia de poetas y escritores. Contra toda convención ligada a los roles de género de la época, papá y mamá —en igualdad de condiciones— habían cultivado el noble oficio de la palabra.
Biography. Karoline, the oldest of six siblings, came from a cultivated but impoverished aristocratic family. In 1797 she entered a residence for noblewomen in Frankfurt, an institution in which poor unmarried aristocratic ladies were cared for and could live respectably while still keeping an eye out for a suitable marriage partner.
