Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend (born July 4, 1951) is an American attorney who was the sixth (and first female) lieutenant governor of Maryland from 1995 to 2003. She ran unsuccessfully for governor of Maryland in 2002.

She’ll serve as a special representative to U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh on retirement and pension issues. Townsend’s appointment was first reported by Pensions & Investments, a trade publication.

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend was born July 4, 1951, in Greenwich, Connecticut, the latest member of the Kennedy family and political dynasty. The daughter of Robert F. and Ethel Kennedy, and granddaughter of Joseph and Rose Kennedy, Townsend lived her private life in a public arena, as did her aunts and uncles, siblings and cousins.
