Krzysztof Zanussi nació en Varsovia el 17 de junio de 1939. O sea, en vísperas del estallido de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Físico por la Universidad de Varsovia, y filosofo por la Jagelloniana de Cracovia, se tituló también en la Escuela de Cine de Lodz en 1966.
