History. The peerage was created in September 1857 for the Whig politician Lord Robert Grosvenor. He was the third son of Robert Grosvenor, 1st Marquess of Westminster, and his wife Lady Eleanor Egerton, daughter of Thomas Egerton, 1st Earl of Wilton .
Lady Eleanor Egerton was the daughter of Thomas Egerton, 1st Earl of Wilton of Wilton Castle and Eleanor Assheton. She married Robert Grosvenor, 1st Marquess of Westminster, son of Richard Grosvenor, 1st Earl Grosvenor and Henrietta Vernon, on 28 April 1794.
