Lee Oscar Lawrie (October 16, 1877 – January 23, 1963) was an American architectural sculptor and an important figure in the American sculpture scene preceding World War II. Over his long career of more than 300 commissions Lawrie's style evolved through Modern Gothic, to Beaux-Arts, Classicism, and, finally, into Moderne or Art Deco.

Lee Lawrie was a titan in the world of 20th Century American Art, creating Architectural Sculpture from Coast-to-Coast, for Seven Decades. Among his credits, he was a pioneer of American Art Deco. Yet the world barely knows who he was; or the magnitude of his contribution to 20th Century American Art.
Biography. Born in Germany, Lee Lawrie arrived in the United States when he was very young, and began working in sculptor Richard Henry Park’s Chicago studio when he was only fourteen. In 1908, Lawrie began teaching at the Yale School of Fine Arts and the Harvard School of Architecture.
