Coordinates: 53.83590°N 1.59511°W. Leeds Modern School was a school in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. [1] History. Leeds Modern School was founded on 14 July 1845 in Rossington Street as the Mathematical and Commercial School. This building in the centre of Leeds became council offices after the school moved to a site at Lawnswood in 1931.

Leeds Modern School. Official opening of Leeds Modern School and Lawnswood High School for Girls by HRH Prince George. 1932. The school moved to Lawnswood and took the name Lawnswood High School to share a site with Leeds Modern School for Boys. The two schools are separated by a joint swimming pool and dining room. 1972.

The school was founded in 1972 and had its first comprehensive intake in 1974. Its predecessors were the Leeds Modern School, a boys' grammar school (founded 1845) attended by Alan Bennett, and Lawnswood High School for Girls, a girls' grammar school (founded 1854), which moved to the current Lawnswood site in 1932.

The school song of Leeds Modern School was written sometime prior to 1957; words by Frank Holland (Headmaster) and music by Bernard Fletcher (Music teacher). Grateful thanks go to ‘Chat’ (aka Tony Chatterton ’57-’64) for providing a stirring rendition of ‘Four Square She Stands’, played on a 1960s Baldwin organ.
26 de jul. de 2022 · Here are 11 Leeds schools – listed alphabetically – which are no longer with us. Some were reduced to rubble while some are still standing although they have been repurposed. Some closed because their buildings were no longer fit for purpose. Others closed for more controversial reasons.
