Leonard Raymond Sipes (September 28, 1930 – March 14, 2000), better known as Tommy Collins, was an American country music singer and songwriter. Active primarily during the 1950s through the 1970s, Collins was instrumental in helping create the Bakersfield sound of the country music genre.

17 de jun. de 2003 · Songwriter Tommy Collins -- whose life Merle Haggard celebrated in his 1981 hit "Leonard" -- died Tuesday (March 14) at his home in Ashland City near Nashville.
It's Tommy Collins, whose birth name is Leonard Raymond Sipes. Like Haggard, Collins is a songwriter from Oklahoma. He wrote the songs "Carolyn" and "The Roots of My Raising" for Haggard, and Haggard wrote this song about him.

16 de mar. de 2000 · Tommy Collins, who wrote country music hits for Merle Haggard, George Strait and other singers, died Tuesday at his home in Tennessee. He was 69. Collins, who was born five miles north of Bethany, died in Ashland City, Tenn., of complications from emphysema, said his friend, actor-singer-songwriter Sheb Wooley.
