30 de jul. de 2018 · Brooklyn native Leslie Ming was one of the key rhythm innovators to usher in the dance groove that defined the R&B charts during the Reagan era, but his musical training on the streets of New York in the 1970s gave him a back pocket full of funk that places him squarely in the pantheon of great funk drummers – studio or otherwise.
That year, songwriter Billy Nichols and drummer Leslie Ming also departed the group. In 1976 Scepter records was experiencing business difficulties that soon ended the company, and BT Express was given a distribution deal with Columbia Records , which, though it gave them greater exposure, resulted in less attention being paid to their production, since they had so many acts to concentrate on ...

My Give the Drummer Some column returns with an interview with great studio drummer Leslie Ming, who joined BT Express as a teenager and went on to play with Kashif, Madonna, Evelyn Champagne King and more in the 80s. This one is one of my favorites just because of how I met Leslie. Long story but a crazy one.
