Progressive Liberal Party (Guatemala) The Progressive Liberal Party was a political party in Guatemala. [6] It had a nationalistic and liberal ideology. It was founded in 1922, and dissolved in 1944. The party, led by Jorge Ubico won the 1931 general election unopposed. [7] [8]

[1] Independent of, although associated with, the Conservative Party in England and Wales, it stood for election at different periods of its history in alliance with a small number of Liberal Unionist and National Liberal candidates.
After the 1918 election, the party remained in existence in parliament until 1922, although greatly weakened. Only 28 were returned, and even Asquith himself lost his East Fife seat. Between 1918 and 1922, there were twenty-four three-cornered parliamentary by-elections , but in each of them the Independent Liberal candidates polled only between 24 and 28 per cent of the votes.
