Mary Robinson Gish (née McConnell; September 16, 1876 – September 17, 1948) was an American actress and the mother of screen stars Lillian and Dorothy Gish.

Dorothy Elizabeth Gish (March 11, 1898 – June 4, 1968) was an American stage and screen actress. Dorothy and her older sister Lillian Gish were major movie stars of the silent era. Dorothy also had great success on the stage, and was inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame .
Lillian and Dorothy Gish were born into a broken family. Her restless father, James Lee Gish, was frequently absent. Her mother, Mary Robinson McConnell, a.k.a. Mary Gish, had entered into acting to make money to support the family.

Lillian Diana Gish (October 14, 1893 – February 27, 1993) was an American actress. Her film-acting career spanned 75 years, from 1912, in silent film shorts, to 1987. Gish was called the "First Lady of American Cinema", and is credited with pioneering fundamental film performance techniques.
As the youngest daughter of actress Mary Gish, Dorothy performed as a child with her sister, Lillian, and her mother. After the family moved to New York City, the two girls became friends with another young actor, Mary Pickford, who introduced them to D.W. Griffith.
