Popova, Lyubov Sergeyevna 1889, Ivanovskoe (Moscow Province) -1924, Moscow Painter, graphic artist, theatrical designer, applied artist. Studied at the private studio of Stanislaw Zukowski in Moscow (1907), Konstantin Juon and Ivan Dudin School of Drawing and Painting (1908-09) and under Henri Le Fauconnier and Jean Metzinger at the Academic de la Palette in Paris (1912-13).
Biography. A leading figure in early 20th century abstract art, Popova was one of the most important Russian artists who came to maturity prior to the Revolution in 1917. The daughter of a wealthy and cultured textile merchant and his wife, Liubov Popova studied painting in the Moscow school run by Konstantin Yuon. After extensive travels in Europe, she developed her interest in the art of the Italian Primitives and traditional Russian painting by working at the collective studio The Tower in Moscow in 1912.
