Lonnie Plaxico (born September 4, 1960) is an American jazz double bassist. Biography. Plaxico was born in Chicago, into a musical family, and started playing the bass at the age of twelve, turning professional at fourteen (playing both double bass and bass guitar ).

Bassist, Composer, Producer. The middle child in a family of musicians, Chicago-born lonnie Plaxico inherited a gift for music that was discovered and nurtured early. By the age of twelve he had taught himself to play the electric bass, and he was soon venturing into Chicago's music scene, renowned for its mix of jazz, funk and blues.

Lonnie Plaxico - Blue Note Records. Biography. Although he became associated for a time with the M-Base musicians, Lonnie Plaxico has been a very flexible bassist throughout his career. Early on he played with Chet Baker, Sonny Stitt, and Junior Cook.
