El germen de la ciudad de Múnich fue un pequeño monasterio fundado en el siglo VIII por monjes procedentes de la abadía situada a orillas del lago Tegernsee, al sureste de Baviera. Munich (German: München, Bavarian: Minga) is the capital of the federal state of Bavaria in the south of Germany. Within the city limits, Munich in 2021 had a population of just under 1.5 million, the third most populous city in Germany.
Origin. Munich city coat-of-arms. The year 1158 is assumed to be the foundation date of Munich, which is only the earliest date the city is mentioned in a document. By that time the Guelph Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony and Bavaria, built a bridge over the river Isar next to a settlement of Benedictine monks .
Munich is the capital and most populous city of the Free State of Bavaria. With a population of 1,589,706 inhabitants as of 29 February 2024, it is the third-largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg, and thus the largest which does not constitute its own state, as well as the 11th-largest city in the European Union.
