Lunalilo (William Charles Lunalilo; January 31, 1835 – February 3, 1874) was the sixth monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaii from his election on January 8, 1873, until his death a year later. Born to Kekāuluohi and High Chief Charles Kanaʻina, he was of royal descent and a grandnephew of King Kamehameha I.

He won the contest and was awarded ten dollars at the time. On August 1873, King Lunalilo contracted a severe cold which developed into pulmonary tuberculosis. Soon after on February 3, 1874, he died from tuberculosis at the age of 39. On his deathbed, he requested his burial on the grounds of Kawaiaha'o Church instead of the Royal Mausoleum.

Although Kalakaua was descended from highborn chiefs, it was clear that Lunalilo had the more impressive bloodlines. His grandfather was Prince Kaleimamahu, half-brother of Kamehameha I.
