Alice (one of the four noted MacDonald sisters ) [14] was a vivacious woman, [15] of whom Lord Dufferin would say, "Dullness and Mrs Kipling cannot exist in the same room."

McDonald began taking voice lessons and performing at a local dinner theatre when she was age nine.
