Magdalen College, Oxford. ·. August 31, 2016 ·. Do you know the reason why 'Magdalen' College is pronounced 'Maudlin'? Our founder, William Waynflete, decreed that his College should be known as 'Collegium beatae Mariae Magdalenae' in Latin and 'Maudelayne College' in English.
Magdalen College invites all alumni, friends of the college, and visitors to campus throughout Holy Week and the Paschal Triduum. All liturgies are open to the public. The liturgical cycle of the Church and of our collegiate community reaches its pinnacle during this solemn time. All of our efforts combine to render our best gifts of beauty to God.
Architecture and gardens. The college is located on a 100-acre site that includes beautiful gardens and a deer park, and its buildings are in a striking Gothic and notable neoclassical architectural styles, including the striking Magdalen Tower, which dates back to the 15th century and is one of Oxford’s most recognisable landmarks.
